Another inspiring black girl magic, Tobechukwu “Tobi” Phillips, a young lady of Nigerian descent, student of Texas' Alvin High School, has made history as the first Black valedictorian in the school since it was established a hundred and twenty-five years ago in 1894.
She is described by her track coach, Jennipher McGraw, as an excellent student from a loving family.

Tobechukwu Phillips earned an excellent  6.9 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, placing her at the top of her class with an 'A' in all of her courses throughout her years in the school; despite taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses where applicable.

The brilliant scholar received the Full-Ride Forty Acre Scholarship to attend the University of Texas at Austin. It is said to be the most prestigious scholarship that the university offers. She will be studying Nursing at University of Texas and her plan is to own her own clinic as a pediatric nurse practitioner, in the nearest future.

What Tobechukwu Phillips had to say in brief:

“Maintaining the highest GPA in my class is a difficult task. It truly takes time management but more importantly acknowledging what you do it for. I know that I am no longer just representing myself.”

Her advice to other kids:

“My biggest advice to other scholars of color is to truly adopt the mindset of Rosa Parks — ‘No.’ Do not conform to the stereotypes that have held us under thumbs for so long,” she explained. “Do not be discouraged when someone speaks out against you, simply allow what they say to fuel your fire. But more than anything, do not remain tight-lipped. Stand up for what you believe in and take it upon yourself to be the change you’ve always wanted. Say ‘No’ to the ways of the world and stick out.”

It has been proven times and over again, that usuallly, when you guard, maximise the potential and create a condusive environment for any person, their glorious potentials are actualised legitimately either academically or vocationally.

May destiny killers be far from us, and don't be one. Amen.
