I remember in 1997, being enrolled into Federal Government Girls' College, Sagamu as a Junior Secondary School, class 1 (J.S.S. 1) student. The first class in high school.

Very naive, enrolled in boarding house, having to leave my mum's nest for the very first time, only to hold on to a fearful faith in God that I will be fine.

Twenty-two years forward, the memories of the events are refreshed as it is announced that the Common Entrance Examination results required, to gain admissions into Federal Government colleges are released and admissions to these Unity Schools will commence on 14 May 2019. The academic year will begin second week in September.

The Minister of Education, Mr. Adamu Adamu, has also announced that the National Common Entrance Examination is for admissions into the hundred and four Unity Schools across Nigeria.

Mr. Adamu showed sensitivity towards the feelings of parents and guardians by noting that his committee is mindful of the anxiety that the parents might be experiencing in hopes of gaining admission for their children.

The minister states the admission criteria as: result merit is sixty per cent, equality of state makes for thirty per cent and other factors as ten per cent.

Candidates who applied in schools outside their state of origin would be selected in line with the ideals of the founding fathers of Unity Schools.

The minister prides that Unity Schools are the best choice for quality secondary education, and projects are mapped for execution to ensure the rehabilitation and landscaping of the schools, provision of qualified teachers, librarians and laboratories.

He puts his word forward that year 2020 examinations will be scheduled at an earlier date and admissions will be completed by the end of April.

Many private secondary schools across the country have completed their admissions processing.
