ESwatini Debunks Polygamy Story, Calls It An Insult To King And Country

Source: Wikipedia

Mr. Percy Simelane, spokeperson of Swaziland  government on Tuesday, in a press statement titled "Malicious reports about king and country," debunks viral story that King Mswati III, had ordered men into polygamy with at least two wives or face jail term, starting from June 2019.
This news was truly shocking, hard to absorb, and sounded dehumanising. It had to be false gist.

The story was said to be spread from a Zambian news platform where it went viral. It said the government was offering to even sponsor marriage ceremonies and offer houses to men who entered into polygamous marriages.

In summary, Percy Simelane emphasises that His Majesty, Emaswati has not made any orders to that effect and has never been an issue raised. He says the news is an insult to the king, the culture of Eswatini and a disgrace to journalism.

He exhibited despair that journalism and social media are promoting character assasinations and ridiculing of people.

The spokesman, on behalf of the Eswatini government, has demanded that the newspaper provide proof of the false statement and retract the story.
