Cyril Ramaphosa Continues To Reign As The President Of South Africa

South Africans went to the polls on 8 May 2019 to exercise their civil rights to vote who they want in parliament. On Saturday, 11 May 2019, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) chairperson, Glen Mashinini announced the ANC as the party that would rule the country for the next five-year term, with Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa as President. The African National Congress, ANC has been the ruling party post-apartheid.

In this year's elections, the two frontline parties lost some supporters as there was a decline in won parliament seats, ANC with a total of 230 seats compared to 249 seats in 2014. The DA with 84 seats, compared to 89 seats in 2014.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) however experienced commendable growth, from 25 seats in 2014 to 44 seats in 2019.

It has not been a smooth ride for the ANC in this terms' victory, according to Timeslive, some parties suggested discrepancies and that the IEC undertake an independent audit by an auditor of the parties’ choosing and a “rerun” of the elections, giving the IEC an ultimatum for 11am on Saturday; same day the results are to be announced.

But the electoral body said on Saturday it had written to lawyers representing the parties advising that their demands were unreasonable and unlawful.

So far, the ultimatum did not stop the results from being announced and President Ramaphosa has been declared winner.

All in all, the common goal is to see the nation in peace, freedom, equality, filled with good and prospering opportunities for all.
