Zimbabwe government to commence pay out of estimated 53 million USD in compensation to white farmers after April 2019.
These white farmers are those who lost lands under former president Robert Mugabe’s land reform about two decades ago. It is said that the lands were obtained during the apartheid regime in Zimbabwe.

About four thousand five hundred white farmers were said to be violently evicted from these lands and these farmlands redistributed to around three hundred thousand black families, arguing it was redressing imbalances from the colonial era.
The new Zimbabwe government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa sees the paying of compensation to white farmers as key to mend ties with the West.
According to Zimbabwe news live, the Zimbabwe government clarified that it will only pay compensation for infrastructure and improvements on farms and not for the land.
