The headline though.... No, Justin Trudeau did not ask Nigeria for a million immigrants.

Canadian High Commission Nigeria is annulling a rumour that claims prime minister Justin Trudeau asked Nigeria government to allow one million immigrants into Canada.

On 14 April 2019, a website CBTV circulated this information and was first seen on Nigeria Twitter via Ovation boss, Dele Momodu's platform.

The Canadian High Commission in Abuja has debunked the news warning on Twitter saying:
“If you've seen this link on your social media timeline, don't fall for it,” “This story is not true. For REAL information about travelling to Canada, go to http://www.cic.gc.ca.”

“IRCC regularly monitors for online misinformation and disinformation,” spokesperson Peter Liang told CTVNews. “When false information is being circulated, as in this case, we aim to act quickly to provide facts,” he said.

The Canadian federal government is targeting 330,800 immigrants from all countries in 2019, 341,000 in 2020 and 350,000 in 2021.
